[ Ah, Christmas. A holiday he's come to learn is akin to Tyria's own Wintersday. He never really celebrated, and so its festivities had mostly slipped his mind. Why wouldn't they, when he had far more personal matters weighing on his mind?
So he eyes Susato curiously as hands him the box, accompanied by apologies. She doesn't need to, he thinks. He hadn't given anyone anything.
For a moment his hands cradle the box, a bit apprehensive about opening it. He doesn't deserve this. She didn't need to fix his charm and give him a Wintersday present. This is unnecessary.
But he also doesn't want to yell at her as he did after the wedding, during their last meeting. So he slowly peels open the box, and when greeted with the sight of the bookmark, he only stares. ]
...
[ susato singlehandedly staving off his transformation fr
His brows raise, the dreamotion emanating from it melting the thorny nightmare that had come to encase his heart in the past few weeks. And as he lifts his eyes, too, there's a hue of guilt in them. ]
...Thank you, Susato. You did not need to do this.
[ At a glance, she... can't tell if he even likes it! Or knows what it is... but she does smile regardless. When she looks into his eyes, she can feel a weight lifting, however small, so she has to believe she helped, even if it was unnecessary. ]
It is a bookmark.
I... Well, I know you must have many, but I thought this one might bring you some good luck whilst you read your next great adventure.
[ Perhaps that is where the dreamotion energy comes from that gives it a slight etheral glow, though as with most things, she still can't say exactly how it will manifest. ]
[ Gingerly, Trahearne takes the bookmark in his hands. It feels warm, a stark contrast to the cold winter air that has surrounded him these past few weeks. It's almost...welcome.
He studies it, its glow, before lifting his eyes to look at Susato. Though he seems no less tired, he seems just a touch less tense. There comes a little huff of an exhale, which may have been a chuckle if he were in a better mood. ]
This is thoughtful of you. [ It's no secret he surrounds himself with books; he'd have hidden away in the Tree of Stories if he hadn't given himself a job...concerning more books.
He places it back in the box. He'll have to find a suitable book to use it with. ]
[ Susato shakes her head. It's not meant to be a dismissive gesture, but she does want him to understand that despite the traditions of exchange, there were no underlying expectations here. ]
There is no need for that.
[ She doesn't mind. There is a pause here, and her eyes settle back on the map now that that's been settled. ]
This was quite a journey. I shall let you rest, but... Did you find what you were searching for? [ Was he searching for something at all? ]
[ There's a contemplative moment as Trahearne sets the box aside. He looks at it, sitting at the edge of the table, under the window, before turning back towards Susato. His expression is neutral. ]
I was not searching for anything in particular. Only exploring.
[ Trying to calm himself, get away from everything, the constant reminders that he is alone--
[ His smile is a relief to see, at least, and for the moment, she supposes she is satisfied. She'll glance up to return his smile, but her eyes continue to scan the map out of curiosity, taking in any marks or notes he may have made. ]
I was happy to.
Perhaps we could explore together sometime. [ She has been working on her healing dreamotion! She could keep him safe. But she thinks that much has been implied already...
[ There is nothing unique about the notes he's made, not particularly. No new discoveries, nothing circled. It might be a little disappointing, in a way.
His eyes soften a bit. It's like she can tell something is wrong. Or maybe she knew that he and Ori liked to do just that, and he searches for a way to fill that void. ]
[After they had gotten back from the jungles with Trahearne, it had been one thing after the other for Beat. But that didn't mean that he had forgotten about his friend. With his backpack in hand, Beat made his way over to the wikki (after asking Susato for directions prior).
Though it was his first time there and though his curiosity gnawed at the edges of his mind, he was there for another purpose. He eventually finds Trahearne, and immediately makes a beeline towards him, a large grin on his face.]
[ Trahearne is indeed at the archives, where he usually is. It feels weird, in a way, to be back. But it's a comforting normalcy.
He's still a bit tired though, so he's been hanging out in his private back office for most of the time. When Beat busts in, he scarcely flinches; he looks up from his book, and smiles. ]
Hello, Beat. [ Ah, the little ball of sunshine that is his "little brother." ] How can I help you?
[Once he's closed the distance between them, he takes a seat across Trahearne without asking for permission. The bag on his back slides off his shoulder as he deposits it on the ground, taking care not to jostle it too much.]
Jus' wanted to check how you was doin'. Ya feelin' aight? No weird nightmare stuff hangin' 'round?
I'm doing all right. No nightmares, no intrusive thoughts. [ Best be honest about that, right?
Trahearne folds his hands over the book he was reading. His eyes dart to the bag, and he is admittedly curious, but he'll wait for Beat to bring it up. ] My staff are taking good care of me as well. I'm glad to see you've stopped by.
[Lucky for Trahearne, Beat's usually the type to take people by their word. Especially if they were friends, so he doesn't pry further.]
Yeah, been plannin' to for a while now. Jus' kinda got caught up with something. [A part of which with him on this trip.] 'Sides, I got somethin' for you anyways.
[Unzipping his pack, he reaches in and places what looks like a take-out box on the table between them. Then, he places a single spoon on top of it as well.]
It's no sweat, yo! [If the grin on his face could get any bigger, it would've.] Been makin' a lot of it anyways.
[And he means A LOT. There's way more than enough to share.]
Made sure to put a lotta that hot stuff in it 'cause that's the shit you like, right?
[When Trahearne opens the box, he will find a heaping serving of curry rice within. The vegetables are sliced roughly, and in uneven cuts, telling of Beat's lack of experience in cooking or food preparation in general.]
[ It's very subtle, but Trahearne does light up when he sees all the curry inside. He inhales, and it is very obviously hot; his smile widens a touch, too. ]
I do like spice. [ He's flattered that Beat remembered, genuinely! Spoon in hand, he digs in, watching as the sauce and the rice begin to mix and the vegetables show themselves. ]
You made this?
[ He can tell right away it's not from the Wild Harvest, considering how much he gets food from them. Not that he would have minded, though. ]
Yeah. Been practicin' making it since Bluey taught me.
[Which also means he's had curry for days. But he's still more than happy to share whatever extra he's made as well.]
Yo, tell me if it's aight. [He leans forward, propping his elbows onto the edge of the desk and folding his arms in front of him. There's an eagerness to his tone, much like a pup waiting to be told that he did well.]
[ He eats as he listens... Oh, this is a precious side to Beat. He gives himself a moment to think about what he says (and to chew) before answering. ]
I can't say I know what that is, but I can tell it's very important to you.
